Mothers Against Drunk Driving

Mothers Against Drunk Driving

I still remember hearing the news about my friend Vicki.  I heard it on the bus on the way home from school.

I remember so well because just a few moments before hearing the NEWS, I had a bad feeling.  I had the kind of feeling that tells you something is about to happen or something has happened.  Do you know that one?

Vicki had been hit and killed by a drunk truck driver.  Not only did he kill her just after she walked off a school bus, but he plowed over the guard building in the apartment complex that she lived in.  What a terrible day.

We were seniors in High School just a few months away from graduation, she had her whole life in front of her until that sad moment. The ironic part of this story is that she was the president of our local S.A.D.D chapter.  (Students Against Drunk Driving).   Can you believe that?   It is a true story.

We all miss Vicki.  She was a kind hearted person with some religious conviction.  It is sad to remember the story even when writing about it.  She was 17 or 18 years old at the time.

Rest in peace, Vicki.
