The Complicated World of Addiction and Control…

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

Last night or rather this morning, I sent a letter out to some friends about this site and the importance of it.   This was the response that I received from one my friends:

“Dear David:  Unfortunately for most a merely (social drink) turns into a habit, and ruins the individual-as well as those  within the influence of  the  imbiber. In the socialist Society, alcohol is called the (opium of the people). So the weakening of the will, and the control of the tyrants -is made easier for them by  a drinking population…”

Very interesting, isn’t it.  Those who seek to control others would like to see us drug and alcohol addicted.  Maybe it is a concept that you would dismiss?  But, in certain times and certain circumstances, it may very well be true.

Here was the original note I sent out about this site:

Acknowledging that drugs and alcohol is a big problem in our society and in fact, virtually all communities across the world,
I’ve decided that I want to do something about it.

Drug and alcohol abuse is a serious problem and I believe it will  continue to grow – and it will attempt to engulf our children and  other vulnerable loved ones.   This is a problem that will not find a social or community based  solution.

However, there is a way to fix it.  But it is merely on the  individual level.  This is because each person has a choice to be addicted or not. Yes, it takes a strong will to break an addiction – and to keep  that addiction broken. But it has been done before and can be
done again – if only the will is there.

That is why I created a new site.

Please join me by reading the stories and possibly sharing your own  at :

http://www.drugabusefocus.com/add-your-drug-or-alcohol-story/

You can do it anonymously too – Unless you choose not to.   Sharing your story will be good for you and good for others too.
But if you are content just to read the other stories there  already – by all means, feel free.

Please help by spreading the NEWS about this site.  Together we can build a resource that will serve all communities  world wide by sharing stories – good and bad – in order to help   people see and understand the reality of drug or alcohol use and  abuse.

Drug Addictions and Alcohol Addictions Harm & Destroy Human Lives

Let's Trade....

Let's Trade....

Years after I left my home town I returned only to learn about some really sad stories.  I kind of felt left out of the crowd a lot of times when I was growing up.  Sometimes I was in, sometimes out.  But that is OK, because what I learned about some of the things happening there is a bit MORE than scary.

Perhaps when you read this, you will think I was naive.  Or perhaps you will be as shocked as I was.  There was a neighborhood in my school district that was a bit far away from mine, yet the kids there were into some heavy stuff.

As it turns out, those kids, which were mostly male as far as I know, would trade sex to other kids for drugs.  I imagine they also traded sex with adults for drugs too.

Even as I think of it now, it makes me very uncomfortable to know that was going on.  Who knows the extend of it?  I only heard that little bit.   The identities of the people involved are not important nor would I ever disclose them even if I did know the names of those involved.   But my heart is saddened by the news of these stories.

If you know of stories like this one,  please share them anonymously (of course).  The reason to share them is to help others understand the vulnerabilities that drug addictions create in us.  We have to help others to understand.  In that way, we may be able to prevent more sadness like this.

Human beings should live with dignity and not be subjected to having sex with someone they don’t want to have sex with, just for the sake of feeding an addiction.   Sex was created to be an act of love and procreation, it is not or should not be an item of commerce to obtain drugs and / or alcohol in order to feed a sick addiction – or feed the depravity of a dealer for that matter.

The Girl with the Scar…

Learn from this experience

Learn from this experience

I remember a drug and alcohol abuse story that I want to share.   Sometimes something bad has to happen for people to be able to recognize that they have a problem and need help. This is one such story.

I remember a couple that came to visit me in the park while I was practicing the peaceful meditation practice of Falun Dafa.  They were drawn to me by the gentle, slow moving exercises of Falun Gong that I was practicing.  Since they seemed like nice people I stopped to chat with them for a while and to show them a bit about what I was doing.

They took some information and went along on their way.   About six or eight months later, I saw the girl again, but without her boyfriend.   This time things were different.   She had a terrible scar running down the side of her face.

I asked her what had happened and she told me the story of how her boyfriend was driving while on alcohol and possibly drugs.  They had an accident and that is how she got the scar on her face.

This is what it took for the boyfriend to realize that he had a problem.  He was filled with remorse and grief over what he did to his girlfriend.  Therefore, he made the choice to voluntarily go into rehab.

I’m glad he went to rehab but it is a shame that this terrible accident had to happen for him to wake up and take notice of how his addiction did not only affect himself but also the people that he loved and was close to.

I hope that anyone who read this can take a lesson from the story.  This is a true story.  I did not make it up.  It is important to realize that your addiction does affect other people.  If not physically, which is OFTEN the case, then definitely mentally and emotionally.  And even though the mental and emotional trauma may not be as obvious, it is real damage none-the-less.

Let this story server as a warning and a lesson to you.  It is better to profit from the lessons learned from others’ experiences than to have to go through the experience yourself.  Evaluate carefully, if you have a problem with drugs and alcohol and if you do, get yourself into rehab before you hurt the people you love.  Just do it.

Alcohol and Driving Drunk

Mothers Against Drunk Driving

Mothers Against Drunk Driving

I still remember hearing the news about my friend Vicki.  I heard it on the bus on the way home from school.

I remember so well because just a few moments before hearing the NEWS, I had a bad feeling.  I had the kind of feeling that tells you something is about to happen or something has happened.  Do you know that one?

Vicki had been hit and killed by a drunk truck driver.  Not only did he kill her just after she walked off a school bus, but he plowed over the guard building in the apartment complex that she lived in.  What a terrible day.

We were seniors in High School just a few months away from graduation, she had her whole life in front of her until that sad moment. The ironic part of this story is that she was the president of our local S.A.D.D chapter.  (Students Against Drunk Driving).   Can you believe that?   It is a true story.

We all miss Vicki.  She was a kind hearted person with some religious conviction.  It is sad to remember the story even when writing about it.  She was 17 or 18 years old at the time.

Rest in peace, Vicki.

Drug and Alcohol Addiction Slide Show – Must Watch….

Drugs Mutilate and Kill

Drugs Mutilate and Kill

I thought this Slide Show on drug and alcohol abuse was pretty cool.  I know it is a little gruesome to watch, but it is good to be aware of what can happen.  After all, that is what this site is all about.

I think this slide show is a great educational piece about the consequences of drug and alcohol addiction.  When I watched the movie: Leaving Las Vegas, I was extremely depressed.  I felt awful.

I think it was the uncomfortable feeling that comes from watching someone throw his life away. In that movie, Nicholas Cage portrays a man bent on self destruction. His goal is to intentionally drink himself to death.   I still don’t like thinking about the movie to this day.

But again, it is really, really important to understand where walking down the path of addiction can take you.   Check out the slide show and then come back here to leave your comments, please.

(scroll down the page a few inches to see the show, it starts automatically)

Pretty crazy, right?  Well, let me know your thoughts after watching this slide show – please leave your comments below.
